South African director Neill Blomkamp’s 2010 sci-fi thriller was hailed as one of the most taunt and thoughtful sci-fi films in recent memory – it was his inaugural effort too. Set in a South Africa, the film examines the typical genre topic of an marooned alien presence of Earth against the backdrop of marginalized communities, unchecked multinational enterprise, and corporate greed and competing interests rush to harness the alien’s technology while pushing them further to the edges of society.
Peter Jackson’s Weta Workshop handled the design production and this lavish book covers all aspects: from alien design, corporate logos, space craft and extraterrestrial weaponry. Big and colorful, it’s a great companion to the film.
